Jorge Visconti
Jorge Visconti Tango Creative Director/ Choreographer/Performer and Teacher grew up in Buenos Aires, in a family of creative artists. The Visconti’s are legendary in the music and film arts. Jorge attended the Universidad de la Plata majoring in medicine, however the nights of learning Tango at the feet of BsAs great tango masters altered the direction of his life.
In the '80s the Visconti’s (with then partner Monica Orozco) opened their theatre "Teatro de la Ciudad Vieja" in the
heart of Buenos Aires, artistically directing and presenting more than 20 productions, including argentine and English classics. The Visconti’s also performed extensively in TV, films and musical theatre in Buenos Aires. They traveled extensively, performing in the Orient for three years, including the EXPO KOREA “93” with the English Ballet.
Coming to the US 13 years ago they forged a trail of awareness and growth for the Tango in Southern California. Working with the City of Los Angeles and the Consulate of Argentina to create festivals and events bringing broader awareness of the Tango as a cultural art form to California. Creating Milongas, promoting Workshops and performances by legendary Tango masters from Buenos Aires; and seminars at California colleges and universities.
Jorge Visconti created the first California Tango contests and the American Tango Association; performs regularly in Los Angeles, La Jolla and Las Vegas and is often asked to provide shows at universities, museums and festivals throughout the West. He has performed with the American Dance Company; worked with Broadway producers and choreographers; served as cultural ambassador on behalf of the Argentine Consulate and conducted Tango Seminars at Cal State, Pasadena and Los Angeles Performing Art Centers.
Currently, Jorge has and created and directs four tango stage shows; while continuing to teach and perform. He holds weekly classes, Milongas and private lessons in Los Angeles. He lectures at USC and other universities on the ethnology and history of the Tango and privately trains celebrities in Tango. Jorge's styles include: Tango Milonguero, Tango Salon, Milonga, Tango Fantasy & Waltz.
